Group Breathwork: Exactly What YOU Need It to Be

Click here to join - Group Breathwork - August 16th, 7PM

¨Ahh, a theme for a breathwork group is required. Or is it? While I nearly always ground a breathwork group with a theme, this one is feeling like it needs something different. With that in mind, let’s gather together, see where we’re all at in the moment, and get exactly what we need, individually, from this healing practice. Chances are, it’s gonna be something shared, but what I love about this form of breathwork is that every participant is navigating their healing themselves and therefore the magic is primarily their own. I'll help you set the stage, but the show is all you!¨

Breathwork can take many forms, but most of the forms help regulate our nervous systems and help us get grounded and clear. The breathwork we’ll engage is in an activating type that brings physical sensations to shift our awareness away from the mind and into the body. When the body leads the way, we can move toward clarity, releasing stuck energy and coming out generally less burdened.

We’ll engage in a two-part breath with two inhales and one exhale, repeated rhythmically. While everyone’s reaction will be unique, we’ll spend time collectively concentrating on our sexual center and look to remove anything that’s blocking us there and keeping us from feeling free and comfortable in our skin.

Expect:

  • Group grounding

  • Active breathwork set to music

  • Quiet meditation

  • Group reintegration

Breathwork for Being Seen

“I feel seen.”

We often use this phrase with a wink and a nod, but in reality, there’s a special thing that happens when someone witnesses us without judgment and acknowledges our feelings and views in a given moment. That act can chip away at past experiences with which we’re burdened. It reminds us that although being seen brings healing, we resist allowing ourselves that gift because of vulnerability fears or hiding ourselves as a trauma response.

In conjunction with Pride month, we’re going to use this breathwork session to see and be seen. This practice can help us pull back the curtain we hide behind and try our best to be and feel without reservation. We deserve to take up space boldly and brightly and deserve to be seen and loved.

End-of-Year Breathwork: Between Remembering and Anticipating

End-of-Year Breathwork: Between Remembering and Anticipating

When: December 29th, 7:00 PM

Where: Maha Rose in Brooklyn

How: Sign up here

What: After all the pressures that the holidays can bring, do you often feel that, at the end of the calendar year, you are then required to analyze the ups and downs of the current year and set aggressive goals for the next one? Sounds exhausting.

What if you could bring a sweetness into this calendar transition, to come to it with balanced remembering and anticipation? What if you could trust your body and Spirit a bit more to bring insights, as opposed to your analytic brain?

Join me for group breathwork at Maha Rose on Dec 29th, 7:00 PM, to do just that. In community and by practicing an active form of meditation like breathwork, we'll support each other in this transitional time by navigating away from the analytical brain and moving into our bodies and ultimately toward connection with our intuition.

What is breathwork and how is this gonna work?

This type of breathwork uses a three-part breath with two inhales and one exhale, repeated rhythmically and performed lying down. This rhythmic breathing brings physical sensations that shift your awareness from your mind into your body. When the body begins to lead the way, you can journey toward clarity, releasing stuck energy and coming out generally less burdened.

Expect:

  • Group grounding

  • Active breathwork set to music

  • Quiet meditation

  • Group reintegration

You have a broad, full, rich, perfect story, and you also have on-the-spot tales to tell. What're you grappling with right now, figuring out, yearning to verbalize even if you don't realize it?

We're all in the middle of constant evolution because throughout this past year, we've been forced to pause and suss out what's working for us and what isn't. Sometimes, the epiphanies come while we're alone, but often, it's when we share our stories with others, and the mere act of vocalizing it, coupled with wisdom in others' reactions, provides clarity.

Through this breathwork group, let's come together in community and share our stories and then breathe into what we learn. Expect some meditative writing to pinpoint part of your story and be ready to use your voice to help yourself and others in the group!

For more info on what this type of breathwork looks like, see below.

Tickets and Resulting Donation

Tickets are sliding scale, and 20% of the proceeds from this breathwork group goes to the Audre Lorde Project, "a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans and Gender Non Conforming People of Color center for community organizing, focusing on the New York City area. Through mobilization, education and capacity-building, we work for community wellness and progressive social and economic justice. Committed to struggling across differences, we seek to responsibly reflect, represent and serve our various communities."

Why 20%? I'm committing to pay forward 20% of every group breathwork event to BBIPOC (Black, Brown, Indigenous, Persons of Color) causes.

What's breathwork?

It's a three-part breath with two inhales and one exhale, repeated rhythmically. You perform it lying down, and it's a much more active form of meditation.

What's it look like to do breathwork at a virtual event like this?

  • Be sure to create a calming space for yourself: wear comfortable clothing, prepare a supportive surface to lie down on, and have a blanket and pillow ready.

  • Even though you may be solo for this session, you're still energetically part of the virtual group, and because of that, the open, loving community helps provide support and encourage fearlessness on your part.

  • We'll start the session by chatting and grounding a bit.

  • Then you'll lie down and place your laptop/phone so that you're visible from the waist up.

  • I'll lead you through the active part of the breathwork where you'll do that three-part breath for an extended period of time. I'll help guide you and try to hold things steady for anything that may come up.

  • After that, you'll get to enjoy a still, quiet, restful meditation.

What's the result?

Like everything, it's best to show up and just be in the process and leave the results to the universe. That said, as you get further into the breathwork session, your mind gives way to your body. You often feel physical sensations that are of a higher vibration. That moves energy internally so that you can let go of the mental chatter way more easily than just walking around thinking.

And it's that bit of open space that brings a feeling of lightness, a feeling of connection, and often clarity about things you're seeking.

Description

Through this breathwork group, let's take a pause and work through stressors, stagnation, and your response to such things. We'll build a safe container where you're held by me and others in the group so that you can create a greater flow of emotional movement. Hopefully, afterwards, you'll be more in touch with what's behind any paralysis you're feeling and gain clarity about how you can move forward.

Description

Whether you're engaged in a lifetime pursuit of recovery/sobriety or curious to run toward the reality of the moment instead of escape through substances (or habits!), this event will focus on such themes.

Breathwork is a perfect remedy for those of us who are often crippled with negative self-analysis and who seek to control all the things never meant to be controlled. The frustration from such things and the refusal to live in acceptance causes us to cling to substances/bad habits that we think bring relief. This practice helps center you in your body where a lot of the trauma from past drinking/using experiences is trapped and can produce physical expansion and release, which brings its own type of relief.

We often drink/use because we feel 'stuck'. Through this breathwork group, we'll build a safe container where you're held by me and others in the group so that you can create a greater flow of emotional movement.

Description

As we round out 2020, let's accept that this year has sent shocks to our nervous system as we've tried to find, at best, stability, and, at worst, outright control, of events that are explosive. But with gratitude, we know that this year has called us to shed old skins that no longer fit. It's called for movement and flow instead of hiding and getting stuck.

Through this breathwork group, let's take a pause and work through stressors and any residual shame and guilt that they, and your response to them, are causing. We'll build a safe container where you're held by me and others in the group so that you can create a greater flow of emotional movement. Hopefully, afterwards, you'll be more in touch with what's behind any paralysis and gain clarity about how you can move forward.

(Note: A day or two prior to the event, you'll receive a link for accessing the virtual group.)

November Astrology Gathering: The Sun in Your Chart

Click here for tickets to this event.

Description

Wondering where you can find ultimate contentment with your life? What blocks you from establishing sustainable joy?

These are questions that can be investigated by looking at the sun's placement in your birth chart. And even though it's the sun, which is typically generalized in astrology discussions as your 'main' sign, it's much more than that! Again, where can you find contentment? How do you go about searching for it? What part of life holds the most lessons for you in this area?

Join me for a 90-minute workshop where we'll take a look at the sun's placement in your chart and discuss how it reveals your core purpose in life and where you'll ultimately be the most content. This is about your soul's purpose, how it expresses itself, and the part of life where you'll likely do the most excavation work to be your best, most radiant self.

What's special about this gathering is that we're going to keep the group size intimate. That way, we can talk about parallels between people in the group and really discuss how you all relate to the sun themes we uncover. Also, you'll get some personalized understanding, not just of your chart, but how the current astrological weather's affecting you.

**After signing up, please send your birth place/date/time to chris@chris-phipps.com.**

Description

Do these US Presidential debates stir up all kinds of stuff for you? There will be righteous anger, for sure, and often we don't know what to do with it. There will be worry that our core beliefs aren't shared by others and may not win out in a few weeks when the election takes place. There will be confusion as talking points and off-the-cuff debate remarks come in at a low, low, low vibration (to be kind).

Eh, I, for one, don't need to bring in that energy live. I can choose to digest what happened during the debate when the time's right for me and when I'm feeling grounded. Want some help getting grounded? Want to engage in a spiritual practice that fosters community, and helps us see things as they really are in the present moment (and not what we conjure them to be as scary, oversized scenarios)? Want to chase something other than division and strife and rage? Let's do it together! (And hey, if you wanna watch the debate afterwards, go for it.)

For more info on what this type of breathwork looks like, see below.

Five Days of Breathwork: Reset, Get Calm, Find Purpose

Click here for tickets for this event

Description

It happens - maybe right away, maybe five minutes later, but these days, it happens pretty rapidly: the headlines come in, the e-mails start, the social media chatter commences. And any rest that we received from the night before gets tainted with worry, attempts to control all the things around us that are uncontrollable, and worse, anxiety snowballing into hopelessness. And, unfortunately, it's likely going to continue through this month of October as the election continues to rile us and Covid continues to weigh upon us.

But I'm here to offer you some relief, some solution. We can do something to help ourselves out. We can make a commitment to start the day from a place of trust, a place of abundance. We can give our bodies a chance to settle and ground. We can give our spirits a chance to expand and thereby better handle any surprises and anxieties that may be a part of our day.

Can you commit to 30 minutes each day - Monday, Oct 12 to Friday, Oct 16 - to join in a guided breathwork. You can try it live with me every day or get a recording to breathe on your own at another time.

Try it for a day. Try it for a couple days. Or really make a change and commit to all five days (at a reduced cost). As they say, nothing changes if nothing changes. Why don't you try and step back from the rollercoaster?

Just 30 minutes each morning (or another part of the day if you're joining from outside North America!), from 7:30 am EST to 8:00 am EST. We'll get on Zoom, go right into a guided breathwork session, and get you going.

We're not gonna make it if we stay in worry, stay in scarcity. Let's grab some joy together. It may just turn into a morning ritual for you!

(Note: The evening prior to each day's session, you'll receive a link for accessing the virtual group. A recording will be provided afterwards.)

A number of free single morning sessions are set aside for individuals who identify as BBIPOC (Black Brown Indigenous People of Color). Please use the Complimentary ticket feature for this purpose, and if you don't mind, contact chris@chris-phipps and let me know what day you'd like to attend.

Description

Have the past few months gotten you feeling more anxious or indecisive on a daily basis as you navigate quarantining, working from home, parenting, keeping up with friends, managing the news cycle, trying to eat right and exercise while you try not to get sucked into the distraction of social media and the like?

Did that long sentence hit you just so and make you feel more anxious?

Join me for a 3-day challenge where, just 45 minutes a day, we’ll navigate these anxious and indecisive moments, see what’s behind them, pinpoint how they appear in your body and use tools to help you:

  • Pause and not act rashly out of fear

  • Use breathwork as an on-the-spot tool for clarity

  • Better trust your intuition and the answers that come from breathwork

Whether you’re new to this practice or want a structure to get you back into it, this challenge is for you!

Description

These past few months have sent shocks to our nervous system as we try and find, at best, stability, and, at worst, outright control, of events that are explosive. The wake-up calls of Covid-19 and the essential fight against racial inequality call for us to shed old skins that no longer fit. It calls for movement and flow instead of hiding and getting stuck.

Tickets and Resulting Donation

Tickets are sliding scale, and 20% of the proceeds from this breathwork group goes to the @blackgirlsbreathing, an initiative to make virtual breathwork sessions for Black Womxn free for 1 year.

Why 20%? I'm committing to pay forward 20% of every group breathwork event from now through the end of the year to BIPOC causes. Full transparency of the paid donation will be provided via Instagram after each event.

  • Feeling old and new traumas from your own experiences with systemic racism?

  • Feeling financial stress from a Covid-19-related pay reduction, furlough, or a complete job loss?

  • Afraid about the ways with which you can use your voice and take action as a non-BBIPOC individual?

  • Terrified because your heart is suggesting that, after all of these quarantined months, your romantic relationship is changing or you're feeling the call to leave your city?

  • Feeling weighed down by unbelievable loneliness because you've been mostly alone these past few months?

Through this breathwork group, let's take a pause and work through these stressors and any residual shame and guilt that they, and your response to them, are causing. Description

For those of us who are sober, isolation often stirs up the loneliness and over-thinking that makes escape through alcohol and substances seem more palatable. But the answer is always a connection to others and to our own spirit. Let's come together, celebrate our sobriety and stay strong together by running toward solution.

Breathwork can provide such a solution. This practice guides us to our true selves and pushes through over-analysis and self-criticism. Once we're in the middle of the session and the body's leading the charge vs the mind, clarity comes that can show us the real way forward toward freedom.

Even if you don't identify as sober, you're more than welcome to join! We can all center ourselves by looking within instead of at external distractions.

Four-week exploration of milestones in a gay man's life, connecting dots and soothing wounds through conversation and breathwork.

You have to go the way your blood beats. If you don’t live the only life you have, you won’t live some other life, you won’t live any life at all. --James Baldwin

For many gay men, the closet may be a distant memory, childhood bullies are shadows, and past relationships retain only their gilded edges. Meanwhile, we walk down a path of hookups, dates and partners - sometimes happily, sometimes boldly, sometimes neither - without understanding how much the past holds the key to the present.

Join me for a 4-week workshop where we'll use traditional milestones in a gay man's life to revisit the past, turn over stones 'best left unturned', and shine a bright light of sweet compassion on our old stories. We'll use our past, supposed warts and all, to strengthen our current and future capacity to love. There's been joy present the whole time, even when we couldn't see it.

Every week, we'll do some writing and engage in honest, open discussion with each other, followed by breathwork. Through it all, we'll help each other see how blessed we've always been to be gay and strive to love with a roar, not a whisper.

Online: Astrology and Breathwork Event (Your Rising Sign)

Description

*Donation-based Tickets Available*

So important and often overlooked, your Ascendant (Rising Sign) is based on the exact time you were born, represents your uniqueness, and shows the ways in which you truly *live* your life. It's about how others see you, based on the actions you take, and how you steer the ship of your life.

Join me for a workshop where we'll take a look at your Rising Sign in and discuss what it reveals about the way you take action and move forward in your life. I bet you'll relate to your Rising Sign as much as you relate to your Sun Sign.

After doing this astrological exploration, we'll lie down for an active breathwork session where we'll continue to journey with the themes we discuss.

**While not required, you'll get more out of this workshop if you know your birth place/date/time and email it to me ahead of time (chris@chris-phipps.com).**
